Vertical Gardens

Teacher guide

In this challenge, students explore agricultural and architectural engineering as they design a vertical kitchen garden for the school to get a more kind and natural space for our playground. They learn to use the scientific principles of fluids, more specifically of pressure, communicating vessels, density, Archimedes Principle and greenhouse effect. Students will get acquainted with the scientific investigation process.

Materials developed by students

Eight groups of students (in total 32 students) from San José-Niño Jesús school constructed a vertical kitchen garden in the academic year 2018/2019. This project was carried out in Biology regular lessons and outside the regular lessons, guided by two teachers (David Tejido and Daniel Rucandio) from Science disciplines. Students were in the 1st year of Compulsory Secondary Education (1st ESO).
